Citrus is definitely the bright spot of an otherwise dark and dreary month. Although we haven’t had much snow here in Boston, the weather has been cold and less than ideal. There are many reasons not to love the month of January. But can we all agree that the abundance of citrus makes it just a little bit better? Especially the meyer lemons and blood oranges.
All year long I pin different blood orange recipes and think about what I want to make when the time comes around. And then when citrus season finally arrives, I have such a hard time deciding which recipe to make first. After some deliberation, these blood orange cosmopolitans came out on top. The blood orange juice makes them slightly sweeter than your average cosmopolitan and gives them the most beautiful red-orange color. Since blood oranges have such a short window of availability, these cosmopolitans are an excellent way to take advantage of this window.
- ¾ cup freshly squeezed blood orange juice (about 2-3 blood oranges)
- ¾ cup cranberry juice
- ⅓ cup Grand Marnier
- 1¼ cups vodka
- In a large cocktail skaker, combine all of the ingredients and a handful of ice. Shake vigorously and pour the prepared drink into chilled martini glasses. Garnish with blood orange slices and serve immediately.
