These days you can’t go into the store without finding pumpkin-flavored everything. It seems like every company is capitalizing on the pumpkin craze and releasing new products all the time. Sometimes I am tempted to buy all the pumpkin things. But sometimes I see something in the store and am motivated to go home and make my own version.
This was exactly the case when I saw not one but two different brands of pumpkin spice cream cheese in the supermarket last week. A flavored cream cheese spread seemed easier enough to make at home. It turns out that I already had all of the ingredients on hand and was able to make my own pumpkin spice cream cheese spread in just minutes. It has been at least a year or two since I have tried store-bought pumpkin cream cheese but like so many other things, I can only imagine this homemade version is so much better. It is thick, creamy and adds just the right amount of fall flavor to your regular cream cheese.
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 3 tbsp light brown sugar
- 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
- ¼ cup pumpkin puree
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
- ¼ tsp ground ginger
- ¼ tsp vanilla extract
- In a small bowl, combine the cream cheese, brown sugar and maple syrup. Using a hand mixer, beat until light and creamy, about 1-2 minutes. Add the pumpkin, spices and vanilla extract. Continue beating until smooth and combined. Refrigerate for at least one hour prior to use.
